Sir Richard Field has had a long and distinguished career. He was appointed Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law University of British Columbia 1969-71, became a lecturer at Hong Kong University between 1971-73, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law McGill University Montreal between 1973-77; was called to the Bar Inner Temple 1977 ; became a QC in 1987, a deputy judge of the High Court in 1998, a recorder in 1999, a judge of the High Court of Justice (Queen's Bench Division) 2002-14 , a presiding judge in the Western Circuit 2009 and the judge in charge of the Commercial List 2014
