Dear All,
India Infrastructure Publishing is a company dedicated to providing information on the infrastructure sectors through magazines, conferences, newsletters and research reports. The company is nine years old. It publishes three magazines — Power Line, Indian Infrastructure and tele.net. Each of the magazines is a market leader in its segment. The company also publishes electronic newsletters for the power, oil & gas, ports & shipping, roads & bridges, telecommunications and infrastructure finance sectors. India Infrastructure has organized several very successful conferences in the areas of power, telecommunications, oil & gas, ports and project finance. Its research division publishes industry reports in the energy, oil & gas, ports & shipping and telecommunications sectors. It has also done some customized and syndicated research studies. It has an extensive data and knowledge base of infrastructure industries, projects and companies. Its clients include multinationals, top Indian corporates, commercial and investment banks, consulting companies, public sector companies, government agencies, multilateral agencies and legal firms.
I am pleased to inform you that Indian Infrastructure is organising its third annual conference on “Ports in India” on February 8-9, 2006 at The Hilton Towers in Mumbai. The theme this year is “Increasing Throughput: Efficiency, Expansion, Connectivity”.
Over the last few years, traffic handled by the Indian ports has been increasing at the rate of more than 10 per cent per annum. This increase in throughput has been achieved on one hand by improved efficiency and expansion at existing ports and, on the other, by development and commissioning of new ports. There has been considerable improvement in average turnaround time, in pre-berthing detention and in output per ship berth day. New terminals have been added at major ports. New minor and specialty ports have been developed. Even connectivity has improved at some ports. That said, we need to do better in the coming years. Indian imports and exports have been rising at a rate faster than port capacity. This rate will only accelerate as the Indian economy becomes more globalised, especially as it becomes a manufacturing hub for many industries. Indian ports will have to provide significantly greater throughput to keep pace with this growth. The increased throughput will have to be achieved by action on a number of different fronts – by further improvement in efficiency and capacity utilization at existing ports, by addition of new terminals and facilities, by better connectivity, etc.
The mission of this conference is provide an update on port development and to put a spotlight on strategies and programmes that will help increase throughput, in the short, medium and long terms. The conference will discuss answers to questions like:
– What are the key sector trends?
– What is the required growth in throughput? How can we achieve it?
– How are the major ports improving efficiency?
– How are the major ports adding capacity?
– What can we expect from minor ports in terms of future growth?
– What are the new projects under development?
– What is the status of connectivity projects?
– What will be their impact on throughput? What more is needed?
– What is the status of key sector development initiatives and programmes?
– What is the status of the draft maritime policy?
– What is the perspective of public and private port operators?
– What are the key impediments and hurdles in delivering greater throughput?
– Etc., etc.
The conference will have at least seven sessions: Key Sector Trends, Improving Efficiency, Expanding Capacity, New Projects, Growth of Minor Ports, Private Perspective, Improving Connectivity and Policy Update. Each session will have two parts. The first part will feature presentations by speakers. The second part will be devoted to Q&A and floor discussions. The conference will feature, as appropriate, presentations from all the major stakeholders and participants: including port trusts, private operators, the government, regulatory agencies and service providers.
The delegate fee is Rs 20,000 for one participant, Rs 30,000 for two, Rs 40,000 for three and Rs 50,000 for four. There is a 25 per cent “early bird discount” for those registering before January 17th, 2006.
We hope you will consider attending this important event. I have taken the liberty of sending you a brochure of the conference complete with the registration form.
Thank you very much,
